   I saw that on CNN and thought how crazy anybody would have to be to staff the British Council in Kabul! But I’m certainly pleased none of the teaching staff were hurt.

   My wording, not theirs! As I was writing it I thought it could be taken the wrong way, but simply couldn’t think of a better way of putting it. Any ideas for a re-write??

   Except to wonder what the neo-colonialist British Council is doing in Afghanistan in the first place. And how soon it will be opening up in Tripoli.

   It sounds pretty traumatic – locked in a safe room while someone is throwing a grenade at the door, one of them only 48 hours since arriving in Kabul!

   I guess the locals were rioting at being force-fed unappetising dollops of Headway and having to endure pointless ‘communicative’ activities!
