FCE sentence transformations reversi memory game
Photocopy and cut up one pack of cards per group of two to four students, removing any cards which have language points which you don’t want to practise. Cut once every two boxes, so that the two versions of each sentence transformations are still connected, e.g. so that the cards about witnesses at the top are not separated.
Give out the cards and ask students to fold them so that the two versions are on opposite sides of the same card and only one version can be seen at any time. Students should then put the cards in a column on the table, in any order and with either side up. The column represents a ladder that they can climb by correctly guessing what is on the other side of each card, starting at the bottom of the ladder each time. The answers follow the normal rules of Use of English Part 4 (no changes to the key word in bold, 2-5 words, etc).
If they make a mistake, they slip back down to the bottom of the ladder, and play passes to the next person. All cards which are guessed correctly stay turned over, and so must be transformed back again when it is the next person’s turn. The winner is the first person to go through the whole pack from bottom to top without any mistakes, or the person who has got highest up the ladder during the game.
If students get stuck, let them have a quick look at both sides of all the cards and/ or let them work together rather than competing, but with the same rules of starting again at the bottom of the column whenever they make a mistake.
