I use this activity so much that it is now worth a page of its own, freeing up my alternative error correction page for other ways of correcting mistakes. As well as dealing with problems that students are likely to have with the language, this is a great way of presenting around 15-20 useful phrases for exams, emailing, meetings, phone calls, presentations, etc etc etc. The pairwork activity also tends to bring up lots of natural communication, especially the need to check/ clarify with phrases like “Did you say…?”

Collect 15-20 useful phrases, and put them all on both the Student A and the Student B worksheets. Add errors to different phrases on each version, so that half of the sentences are still correct on the Student A version and the other half are correct on Student B’s worksheet. Students work together to choose which version is correct and change their version if it is wrong, initially without showing their worksheets to each other.
