Meeting people problems roleplays
Take turns being “You” in situations from below, with your partner(s) as the other person or people. Your teacher will tell you how to choose from the situations, for example:
- at random
- picking tricky ones for your partner
- your choice of situation for yourself
| You meet someone again. You are sure that you have met the person before but you can’t remember anything about them. |
| You meet someone after a long time and ask them about how they have been, but everything that they say is bad news |
| You’ve been talking to someone for 10 minutes when a colleague comes over and joins the conversation. You can’t remember either person’s name. |
| You need to introduce someone with an unusual foreign name that you can’t pronounce |
| Everyone hands over business cards but you have forgotten yours. |
| The person introducing themselves is speaking too quietly. |
| You don’t want to tell the person who you are meeting which company you work for. |
When your teacher stops you, ask about any situations you are not sure about, working together to think of what to say each time. Then think of other tricky meeting people situations that you have experienced, might experience, have heard about, can imagine, etc. Your teacher will tell you if you should roleplay those situations yourself and/ or get another group to roleplay them.
