Making Proficiency Use of English Part Two questions challenge

Group A

with real answers from Cambridge Proficiency Examination Papers 1

All the words below are answers from a real CPE exam paper. Use them to make exam-style open cloze questions with a gap where the words given are the only correct answers. You will get one point if the other team doesn’t get the right word to go in the gap, but only if they then agree that no other answers are possible in that gap. You should write at least three questions, using any words from below that you like. Unlike the real exam, you can write different unconnected sentences for each word (not a whole text).

  • according
  • all
  • anything
  • as
  • at
  • back
  • danger
  • for
  • given
  • however
  • if
  • in
  • into
  • little
  • mind
  • not
  • nothing
  • or
  • so
  • to
  • up
  • where
  • with
  • without

Give out or read out your questions, correct their answers, and see if they agree that there is only one possible answer for each gap.

Look at both worksheets and ask about any words which you can’t think of example sentences for, working together to come up with sentences that only work with that word each time.
