Complete First Unit 9

Work in pairs or small groups. For each question below, underline the important words, then for each try to agree on whether it is better to:

  • look at both sides
  • choose one side straightaway
  • choose the other side straightaway.

Then decide on what your third subtopic will be and what the best paragraph structure will probably be cover all everything that you decided. You can brainstorm ideas if you need to, but it is usually fairly easy to plan the task without any brainstorming. You can skip difficult questions and come back to them later if you like, but you eventually need to plan all of the essays.

When your teacher stops you, share one plan you agreed on and see what the class thinks.

Ask about any tasks which were difficult to plan, etc.

Discuss the questions in the essay tasks, this time just giving your opinion as if they were speaking questions (but staying on topic and covering all three points, including the extra one you agreed on before).
