FCE Speaking Part One on technology
FCE Result Unit 11 (Man and machine)
Take turns asking three questions from below, plus follow-up questions like “What makes you say that?” if the answers are short.

- Do any of your friends spend too much time playing computer games?
- Do you do anything online every day?
- Do you have the same attitude to technology as your parents?
- Do you have too many gadgets, would you say?
- Do you like e-books?
- Do you like hearing about the latest technology?
- Do you plan to buy any new technology?
- Do you prefer to read news online or buy a newspaper?
- Do you spend a lot of time on social media?
- Do you use any methods to stop yourself being distracted by the internet?
- Do you usually carry any gadgets with you?
- Has your attitude to computers changed since you were a child?
- How do you usually learn about new gadgets?
- How has technology changed your life in the last 15 years?
- How knowledgeable are you about technology?
- Is there anything that you would really like to learn how to use?
- Tell us about the last time you had problems with technology.
- What is your favourite gadget?
- What piece of technology could you least live without?
- What technology did you most use when you were a child?
- What was your most recent electronics purchase?
- What’s the best thing about your mobile phone?
- Would you describe yourself as interested in technology?
- Would you prefer to be able to replace your mobile phone often or to be able to continue using the same one?
- Would you say that you have too many gadgets?
- How much of a technophobe or technophile are you?
When your teacher stops you, ask about any questions above you aren’t sure about, working together as a class to answer them each time. Then ask each other different questions made from the FCE Speaking Part One questions stems in bold above.
When your teacher stops you, ask about any question stems that you couldn’t make questions out of, were not sure you answered well, etc, working together to think of suitable questions and answers.
Ask the original questions above again but this time in exam format with one examiner asking a mix of the same question and different questions to two or three candidates.
