When your teacher stops you, ask about any sections above you couldn’t think of questions for, couldn’t answer questions about, etc, working together as a class to come up with examples each time.
Brainstorm vocabulary that you could have used in the previous task into the spaces on the next page below, then choose words and phrases which you think no one else in the class wrote down. You only have five minutes to complete, so use phrases like those on this page below to manage your time efficiently.
Useful language for brainstorming
Starting the task
- “It doesn’t really matter which one we start with, so how about this one/ the first one?”
- “Shall we start with this one?”
- “Which one do you want to start with?”
Move onto others
- “Let’s skip that one then.”
- “Maybe we should move onto another one.”
- “Shall we move onto this one?”
- “Which one should we do next?”
- “We are probably running out of time, so let’s rush through the last few”
You now have two minutes to choose vocabulary you wrote which you think other teams will probably not have thought of.
Starting the choosing stage
- “(From what you said), I guess you’d choose…”
- “How about…?”/ “What about…?”
- “I think we can eliminate/ ignore…”/ “Definitely not…”
- “I’d (probably) choose… because…”/ “I’d like to nominate…”
Quickly agreeing or disagreeing/ moving the discussion on
- “It looks like we agree on that one, so…”
- “I don’t feel the same way, but I see what you mean. Anyway,…”
- “It doesn’t seem like we can agree on that one, so…”
- “If not that one, what do you think about…?”
- “What about the next one?”
