What news stories have you been following recently? Compare ideas with your partner to see which things you know that your partner doesn’t.
Do the same with news stories about natural disasters.
What vocabulary would you expect in news stories about the following natural disasters?
Storm (Hurricane/ cyclone/ typhoon etc.)
Flooding
Landslide
Avalanche
Drought
Volcanic eruption
Earthquake
Tidal wave (= Tsunami)
Look for news stories on each type of disaster on the internet and add language that is specific to that type of natural disaster to the spaces above.
Look at the text (IELTS Graduation Unit 5 page 73) and see if you can add any more words to the hurricanes section.
