IELTS Speaking Part One/ IELTS Speaking Part Three/ IELTS Writing Task 1 line graphs
Take turns asking three questions from below, not looking below when it is your turn to answer. If your partner doesn’t compare in their initial answer, use the follow-up questions in brackets to give them another chance to compare, then move onto the next question.
How is the place where you live/ How is your hometown different from how it was 20 years ago? (How do you feel about those changes?)
How does where you live compare to the area around here? (Which do you prefer?)
Do you prefer to cook or eat out? (Why do you feel that way?)
Have you been to many countries? (Which one did you like best? How was it better than the other places?)
How do you picture your life in the year 2025? (How will it be different from your life now?)
What is/ was your favourite subject? (Why do/ did you like it better than the others?)
Where did you last go on holiday? (How does it compare to other places you have been?)
Do you feel your English is improving? (In which ways?)
Do you have any goals or ambitions? (How do you think achieving that would change your life?)
How are good manners in your country different to other places you have been or know about? (How do you feel about those differences?)
In your opinion, are people’s economic situations in your country getting better or worse? (What evidence do you have for that point of view?)
How do you think people’s diets will be different in 20 years’ time?
When your teacher stops you, ask about any questions above you don’t understand, are not sure you answered well, etc.
Brainstorm language that you used or could have used to talk about:
- similarities
- differences
- trends/ changes
Make other questions for each other out of the underlined question stems above.
Use similar language to describe the data in an IELTS Writing Task 1 task.
