B2 First Speaking Part 1 functional language card games

Try to use the functions on the cards on the next page as you answer Cambridge First Speaking Part One questions, while doing the thing from this list that your teacher tells you to:

  1. Deal out the cards and discard the cards when you successfully do those things with phrases which no one has used so far today.
  2. Spread the cards over the table and take them when you successfully do those things with new language.
  3. One person will hold all the cards and give them to people as they successfully do those things with original phrases.
  4. Cross off those functions on the worksheet.

Take, discard or cross off the cards as you are speaking (not waiting until you have finished speaking).

When your teacher stops you, brainstorm at least three useful high-level/ impressive phrases for each of the functions on the cards.

Compare your phrases as a class.

Try to use suitable phrases with those functions during exam-style speaking, with the examiner using this script:

Examiner’s script “Good morning/afternoon/evening.
