Take turns choosing one of the cards below from here or from the cut up pack your teacher gives you to continue a discussion between Saskia (a woman) and Bradley (a man), numbering the cards or putting them down in order as you use them. The question mark cards can be used for any question and the starred cards are jokers and therefore can be used for anything (actions as well as speech).

When your teacher stops you, ask about any cards which were difficult to use, brainstorming related direct speech each time.
Brainstorm possible direct speech for each of the functions.
Optional extensions:
- say some direct speech you brainstormed and see if someone can match it to the correct function
- retell your story to other students
- look at the cards of another group and try to tell their story
