Present Simple and Continuous business roleplays

Business Present Simple and Continuous roleplays

In pairs, do the roleplays below in the way that your teacher tells you to (e.g. doing your choice first or picking them at random). Take turns being the “you” mentioned on the card.

Your partner keeps phoning your number and asking to speak to your boss. Give them a different reason each time why he or she isn’t available
You phone your partner on their mobile. You keep hearing different strange noises in the background. Ask each time what the noise is.
You both want to set up a regular meeting. Talk about your weekly routines and try to find a regular slot that suits both of you.
Try to persuade your partner that one of your regular duties at work should be transferred to them
Listen to your partner’s complaints about the processes in your company. Admit those faults but tell them how things are changing and how those things are being worked on in order to keep their business.

When your teacher stops you, ask about any situations which you are not sure about, brainstorming typical things to say in that case as a class each time.

Write one Present Simple and/ or one Present Continuous sentence that you could say in each situation above, using both tenses whenever possible.

Make rules about the meanings/ uses of the two present tenses, and use that to check the grammar of the example sentences you wrote.

Read out a sentence and see if the class can guess which situation it matches and agree that the grammar is correct.
