No, sorry, I am not going to tell you how to use Harry Potter in your TEFL classes as quite frankly I think using Miffy would be just as useful in terms of intellectual stimulation. The real interest in the geeky magician lies not in his escapades at a unique English boarding school (unique because there are no homosexual undertones) but in the whole machine surrounding him. The hype! The hints of plot developments! The prurient interest in the author’s private life! Can’t the ELT publishing industry drum some of this up for the next blockbuster TEFL book and make all our lives a little bit more exciting for a few days???
