Literal meaning- Giant rubbish

Real meaning- Slang for a retired husband who has just become a waste of space

Japanese- Nanpa suru

Literal meaning- To do the soft one

Real meaning- A guy chatting a woman up (I guess “doing a hard one” would be dragging them home by the hair like the good old caveman days??)

Japanese- Okama

Literal meaning- Honorable pot

Real meaning- Slang for a male homosexual

Japanese- Okoge

Literal meaning- Honorable burnt pieces

Real meaning- Fag hag (Comes from rice stuck to the bottom of an “honorable pot”)

Japanese- Mizu shobai

Literal meaning- The water business

Real meaning- The sex industry (Apparently comes from the Edo period, where some men would pay just to drink water just as long as the waitresses were good looking)

Japanese- Kurismasu keiki

Literal meaning- A Christmas cake

Real meaning- A woman who is still hanging round well after she is 25 (like a Christmas cake that is still uneaten on the 25th)

Literal meaning- Anxiety crime

Real meaning- Pre-delinquency (an all purpose category under which Japanese police can take in a youth who looks like he might cause trouble, or tick them off and give them another chance because they are still young)
