A typical TEFL biography (and one big difference)

The typical bit:

“I did not know what I wanted to do but I did know what I did not want to do.  I did not want to work in the UK. ”

and the untypical bit:

“A panel of misguided ex-public schoolboys who interviewed me at the British Council in 65 Davies Street, made the mistake of offering me a job with the BC… [and]  sent me off to Leeds University to do a post-graduate diploma in TEFL

Post-graduate diplomas as initial TEFL qualifications! Employers training you for free before they send you abroad! How have we fallen so far??

From Alan Maley- biography, one of the guest posts on the BBC/ British Council TeachingEnglish site. Alan Maley’s time as guest writer has just finished on that site, so I look forward to Sandy MacManus’s pieces on there soon.
