Man on a mission?

The post on EFL Classroom 2.0- Teacher Talk that really grabbed my attention was the one where David explains his sense of mission. Like positivity in general, coming across a teacher or blogger with a sense of mission can be taken in several ways- you can be inspired, depressed that you ain’t got it, or just happy for them that they have.

I absolutely do not blog with a sense of mission- a sense of confusion, more like! However, even without any sense of higher purpose at all I still find it more than worthwhile, and I believe many more people could find their own rather ordinary but very real sense of satisfaction and rewards in it too. For me, I couldn’t carry on teaching if I didn’t produce my own materials, and I couldn’t spend so much time on those materials if I thought they were going to be used just once or twice by me. Therefore the time I put in, even the hour or so a week of complete tedium as I put up new worksheets, is worthwhile. There are times when I wish I could get that feeling of satisfaction elsewhere, and when I thought the whole blog had disappeared it was nearly a relief, but all in all the cost/ benefit analysis makes sense and so on TEFLtastic goes. Give sharing your ideas and materials a try, and it’ll probably add up for you too. If not, if it’s on a free site (e.g. here!), whatever you’ve put up will still stay up forever.
