Business meetings first class lesson plan

This is a three hour class that will need cutting down for most people and I won’t get to try it out till tomorrow, but looks like a nice combination of some of my TEFLtastic classics and some new stuff that I’m feeling inordinately proud of at the moment. Hoping it might also fit in with the time of year.

1. Page 1 of this Meetings and negotiations needs analysis in pairs

2. Discuss the last question (the best way to learn English) as a class and move onto discussion of these needs analysis discussion questions (top half of page 1)

3. After presenting opinions language in worksheet above (page 2), get them to give their opinions on good and bad business meetings using page 3 of this meetings cultural differences worksheet to help them come up with ideas (with the very bottom – the bit mentioning China – cut off to not give away the answer to the stage below)

4. After discussing if their opinions in the last stage are based on culture, get them to do pages 1 and 2 of the worksheet above (meaning they have now done the whole thing back to front) where they guess the country

5. Discuss starting meetings in more detail and then do a worksheet such as this one on starting (and maybe ending) meetings

6. Ask students to do some introductions to the meetings mentioned in the bottom half of business cultural differences mini-meetings, then choose one of the meetings to roleplay in full

That should be at least three hours! I’ll put some feedback on how it went tomorrow after I try it out.
