    Sometimes I think I am the only one who doesn’t have a problem with language being accurately described in terms of complex systems, and yet this explanation not yielding any practical imperatives for language teaching.

    I don’t think even the authors would claim that they have “accurately described” language in terms of complex systems, and in fact the whole idea is meaningless. You can only decide if something is a complex system (rather than just complex) with maths and computer modelling.
