Filipinos not the solution to countries’ English teaching problems?

This is one of several recent news stories from Vietnam recently including claims that Filipino teachers are unaffordable, hard to find and/ or not suitably qualified, funnily enough exactly the complaints most often made about Western teachers.

    I have been teaching in Viet Nam for 1 1/2 years and according to the new standards I am not qualified. But in our school if you tried to remove us Canadian students, I think the students and their parents would revolt. Just as some of the best Christians have never been inside a church, so some of the best teachers are not strictly qualified.
