I’m using Business Result Pre-Intermediate and fairly happy with it so far for its focus on the kind of functional language that students need to do business (rather than the language to talk about business that some others are mainly based around). I retain a certain suspicion of it, however, as it forms part of a series with titles like FCE Result and Intermediate Result. I can understand why it would make sense for a publisher to produce these kinds of mega-series (or at least how it would seem to make sense as part of a PowerPoint presentation), but I really don’t see how there could be anything in it for me as a teacher. Learning something from the success of Market Leader and putting that in their General English textbooks is great, but naming something Language Leader suggests the photocopying of an approach for a totally different group of students rather than the learning of lessons to me.
I’m writing a review of a book that forms part of a mega-series for MET at the moment, so I’d be really interested to hear other people’s views and experiences.
