As far as getting something out of a language class goes, students having confidence in their teacher is probably almost as important as them having confidence in their own ability to learn. I have yet to see a whole article on helping them trust the teacher, though, so have attempted to write some practical tips myself:

Excellent article Alex. Covers many of the things that are generally lumped under the statement “he/she’s a BAD teacher’. One of the problems not mentioned (and probably rightly so) is the issue of personality and character. Some people just don’t inspire confidence or trust (although they can compensate for this with much of what you’ve covered).
