Macmillan have proudly announced an OBE for Simon Greenall for services to ELT publishing. Although I’m a republican and so followed Sandy McManus in turning down my knighthood for services to TEFL blacklisting and attempts at TEFL humour, it’s good to have some recognition for the industry and it’d be nice to have some other (especially some more alternative) figures in Buck House kissing the Queen’s hem (or whatever it is they do). My own nomination is Mario Rinvolucri, and not only because it might be the only thing that will get him to emerge from that bunker he’s built at the bottom of the garden of Pilgrims school.
