Who would you give an OBE to?
Macmillan have proudly announced an OBE for Simon Greenall for services to ELT publishing. Although I’m a republican and so followed Sandy McManus in turning down my knighthood for services to TEFL blacklisting and attempts at TEFL humour, it’s good … Continue reading
New Macmillan English titles in 2013
Mainly new editions and new levels and no teacher resource books, but looooooads of new readers. See here for how to get your hands on copies for free by writing me a 700 word or so review. Children Captain Jack … Continue reading

New Macmillan titles in 2011
As with the lists of Cambridge and Pearson titles, lovingly typed out so that I can send you all freebies in exchange for short but perfectly formed reviews. Most noticeable for me this time was lots of titles for international … Continue reading

Full story in the Torygraph here. Ironically, Macmillan publish a graded reader in which “our hero is caught accepting a bribe” http://www.amazon.co.uk/No-Longer-Ease-Intermediate-Macmillan/dp/1405072997

Interview with a Marxist TEFLer/ TEFLing Marxist
Interview done by email rather than talking to a Zapatista-style balaclavaed bandit in the jungle (which would’ve been nice), but the results are just as interesting as the always thought provoking Marxist TEFL Group blog, I think you’ll find: “Why define yourself as … Continue reading

Two ways of livening up textbook dialogues
I’m going to write about how to use these in more detail later, but thought I’d give the links first in case this saves someone’s day: http://www.xtranormal.com – students can make an animated “film” from the script just by typing … Continue reading
My top 10 books for/ about EFL for young learners
Wrote this list for a (teacher training) student and thought it might be worth a blog post and maybe a bit of friendly debate. Here are my all time favourites- off the top of my head, but if they’re that … Continue reading

CLIL is no longer a punishment
This is a story I’ve been following for a while but didn’t get around to writing about until it was finished– Catholics in Valencia have tried to sabotage a new civics course that seemed too liberal for them (what wouldn’t be??) … Continue reading
