I’ve never really had any involvement with the ESOL* world in the UK, but it was the topic of one of the best ever guest posts that I’ve published here. It also looks like that side of learning English is really kicking off back home at the moment, with even the opposition criticising immigrants for not learning English while the government makes it more expensive and difficult for them to do so. Luckily, people who have a lot more confidence in their left wing beliefs than I do have set up Action for ESOL to battle the government on this one, and they also have a newsletter for teachers and students that is worth a look.

*In Britain ESOL generally means English for immigrants etc, in contrast to TEFL for use in international travel etc. I’ve taught in four language schools and a summer camp back home, but never in an adult education college where ESOL tends to be more dominant.
